  1. Hey, I have mad respect for ppl who lived during the 70's, feminists, masculanists, eunuchs (why is spell check saying this is the correct spelling of eunichs? whatevs.) I just think 'feminism' means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. The word carries a lot of connotations based on one's own experience with this...abstract idea. This is one of the "younger generation's" opinions and experiences. Maybe it didn't always mean that. I'm not saying it ever did or does to anyone else. You know what I'm sick of? People who think they still have to fight for these labels. It's 2014--you know why kids of my generation don't "Fight for the right?" Because we thought we were past that. We thought the older generations were past it. Young ppl don't see color anymore. And we don't really see gender, either--anybody wanna discuss gay marriage, for example, and why it's happening now and not back then? Because the youth have evolved beyond these arbitrary and relative labels and ideals. We don't see in 'black and white.' Hell, a lot of 'em see in rainbow, now days. It doesn't matter who marches on what for the right to participate in the purely participatory act of 'voting.' Don't get me wrong--I'm not saying that females haven't participated to history in major, event altering ways that were important to humanity. Obviously that would be facetious lying. I'm just playing devil's advocate. Mostly because I'm an argumentative bitch, but also because I get tired of hearing that people are STILL having this eon's old debate. Who cares what some idiot bigot has to say about anything? But don't tell me I have no experience with discrimination/sacrifice, or am too young, and therefore have no right to speak on the matter. At the end of the day, I'm an equal opportunity descriminator--and if you think that's bad, you can go tell it to my gay sister, my feminist mother, or my half black, half indian father. I just don't like the word 'feminism' or it's connotations. What I'm saying is, let's look past these stereotypical adjectives in an attempt to find the heart of a person and their ideals.
  2. Got my first buck--8 pointer, too. ((don't tell anyone I hit it w/ the car))

Lol. One of the guys I drive around for work is a deer magnet, I swear - I've had two try to run into me when I had him. The doe actually hit me (she panicked and ran after I was nosing past her, hit the side of the SUV); the buck was trying to run from Mr. Deer Magnet (walking to meet us) and nearly ran head-on into the front of the SUV. Sad when you're going 5mph and have to stop because you think the deer's going to hit you.

  3. On a random note, since we're discussing grammar, here's a question: would it be proper to place a question mark within single quotations that are, themselves within double quotation marks? For example: "Haven't you ever heard the saying, 'don't shoot the messenger'?" he asked. or "Haven't you ever heard the saying, 'don't shoot the messenger?'" he asked. The second sentence looks more correct to me. Just wondering what ya'll thought.
  4. Okay, my two cents is random and, at best, unrelated to writing. As far as writing goes, however, I will agree w/ Wench in agreeing with Foe in that heroic characters, regardless of gender, should be written to be strong people with strong convictions. However, I have no use for feminism. Then again, I suppose you might, too, if you were raised by a feminist who also explored her bi-curiosity on and off throughout your life. "Women can do anything men can do," my mother said, right after she asked me to give a message to my (male) fiance to come and fix her car. And yes, she has automotive experience--she was the only female in her college class back in the '70's.
  5. Editing break = smokey treat *puffs a cigarette* :D

  6. Howdy, yall! Retro-vertigo has been revised and updated! Chapter 4 now available (Ch. 5 is currently in the works). Thank you, to those who have previously read, and if you haven't, and you like a good sci-fi story, please check this one out! Although Retro-vertigo takes place within Joss Wheadon's Firefly/Serenity universe, I've tried to write the story from an angle that anyone can read--even if they aren't familiar w/ the t.v. show/film. Link to my fanfic here. Retro-vertigo is the story of the crew of a small, Firefly class star ship known as Serenity, and their adventures with four new passengers: the sassy and gifted Liana Laveau, stoic and former soldier, Chris Geautreaux, trust fund baby and smooth talker, Shin Shimazu, and finally, the small boned "Skinny" Sam Collins, who has a penchant for gambling. The group are musicians; the men, former band mates of Jayne Cobb, the crew's crude, yet lovable, gun-for-hire. The band enlists the help of Captain Malcolm Reynolds in order to make it back to their home planet for a huge music festival--without raising the attention of the Feds--because these musicians aren't just some simple band--they're also cocky & charismatic drug smugglers. This fanfic includes 5 OC's, one of which is a minor character who is deceased prior to the story. I didn't really intend for it to be a "song fic" (I'm not even exactly sure what makes a fic a "song fic"), but, because the story revolves around musicians, there are some lyrics within the story. I've tried not to go overboard w/ them. The fic also revolves heavily around dreams and flashbacks--fair warning to those of you who can't stand stories with parts told from that particular point of view. Please R&R! I welcome constructive criticism, and if you'd like to beta Retro-vertigo just inbox me! Happy reading&writing, yall! ~moss gypsy aka space oddity aka Jesse Noel
  7. Howdy, Soifon ^^ Are you still available to beta? I am currently working on a fanfic set in Joss Wheadon's 'Firefly/Serenity' 'verse. It includes several original characters--I've already established their backgrounds and relationships. If you're interested, drop me a line and/or review. Thanks ^^
  8. Howdy, Raiteth ^^ Are you still available to beta? Maybe you'd be interested in helping me out. My fic is a bit complex, but I have all character relations and backgrounds established. It is set in the 'Firefly'/'Serenity' verse. As you are also a Joss Wheadon fan, I thought you might be interested in checking it out ^^ Feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, etc. Thanks!
  9. I, too, am intrigued by 'glass.' Challenge accepted. More updates soon.
  10. Howdy, ya'll ^^ Years ago, I read a steamy Logan/Jean fic, although I don't remember what site I found it on, the title, or the author. What particularly stands out in my mind about the fic was that all the chapter titles were related to poker (Duces Wild, One-Eyed Jacks, etc.) In one chapter, Logan is reading Milton's "Paradise Lost" and decided that Eve must have been a red-head. In another chapter, the X-Men are having a meeting, during which Logan is thinking of what he wanted to do to Jean, who was reading his mind. Then she started sending him mental images to fuck with him, and at the end of the chapter, Gambit (being empathic) got all flustered and told Logan to do her or forget her, just get it over with. Another chapter I remember is Jean working out in the Danger Room when Logan comes in. She's running on a tredmill, and then Logan comes in and starts practicing tai-chi. Throughout the story, Jean and Logan's affair goes deeper and deeper. She even starts wearing black clothing, instead of the red she normally wore because of Scott's visor. Is this ringing a bell with anyone? If so, drop me a line and let me know where I can find this fic. Thanks yall!
  11. Aaaw :sniffle: That's great that she's expecting, tho (((Congrats Sarima!))) Thanks for the replies, yall! ^^ --the oddity
  12. Drink up, me hearties, yo ho

  13. Obama's is still president and the county/city merger was voted down. Now I don't have to move to Canada ^^

  14. Howdy, ya'll! ^^ I've been looking for "Releasing the Demons," an orginal fic written by Samara Raine. It's about a 13-year-old girl name Madeline who is kidnapped and sold into a slavery/prostitution ring. Sound familiar to anyone? It was such a great story, and I never got to finish reading it! I was going to add Samara to my list of recomended authors, but I can't find her name in the directory--I don't know if this is due to site re-vamping or if perhaps sheno longer posts on AFF anymore. Anyway, if you know where to find this story and/or author, please drop me a line. Thanks! ^^ --the oddity
