  1. On the FOURTH day of Christmas, a true love ought to give:

FOUR scammers getting baited and losing their gift cards
    THREE busted spammers’ modems
    TWO broken spammer’s modems1
ONE spammer’s head in a pear tree

Can you tell I’ve gotten peeved at the spammers slithering across our website, littering our forum with their filth?

Believe me, Desi, we really appreciate the giggles as we fight the bastards :D

Don’t know the available settings on this thing.  However, if you can update the captcha requirements to post as a guest, and get all guest-posts put into a moderation pool (for approval) before becoming visible, that might help?  Even though, yes, you’re fast to remove them, it is pubic in visibility for a short period.

  2. On the THIRD day of Christmas a true love ought to give three destroyed spammers’ modems, two broken spammers’ keyboards1, and a spammer’s head in a pear tree.

1Credit to @BronxWench for the second line, maybe a forum topic would’ve been better?

  3. For the first day of Christmas, a true love OUGHT to give a spammer’s head in a pear tree.

One the second day of Christmas, my true love gave to me two broken keyboards, and a spammer’s head in a pear tree.

  4. Tis the season for Santa’s Workshop to be bought out by a Wall Street private equity firm.

Started off as a conversation with a coworker about the likely OSHA violations (for Santa’s Workshop).

Yeah, I’m going to say it’d be the otherway around. You’d think it would be like wolves descneding on some old dude but then you realize Old Saint Nick has one eye.

Word of advice to any Wall Street private equity firm thinking about this potential buyout? Do not fuck with the All-Father.

  5. 88 Kudos on AO3, does this mean I’m going back in time?

Crisis averted, somebody helpfully hit the button, 89 kudos.

  6. Sure, November’s goal might’ve been a bust, however, I think I’ve overcome the hurdle that stopped my progress.  Therefore, my December’s goal is to advance my potter story from 1066k to 1125k (on-drive count).  Already had 1.1k this morning before work, so off to a decent start.

  7. November’s over and I’ve missed my goal for the month :(  Still, 40k’s not too bad I suppose.

    1. GeorgeGlass

      GeorgeGlass

40k is pretty damn respectable, IMO.

I hold myself to high standards.

  8. Thanksgiving turkey recap:  It was tasty/delicious, didn’t bother with gravy based on the QA taste test :)

Being single & celebrating by myself, I opted for a turkey breast (which is less than a full bird).  Started this on Monday, when I let the thing soak in a bath of orange juice mixed with sugar, salt, & spices.  Yesterday, fired up the propane meat smoker, used cherry wood chips, let it sit for four hours inside.  (Also had some chicken thighs along for extra meat to enjoy later.)  Only mistake, didn’t fully dump all the OJ bath out, so it was still in the cavity at hour three, dumped that then … so at that exact spot, it was a tad under cooked despite the rest being well-done (I’ll get it with the microwave on leftovers).

All in all, quite pleased with how it turned out.  Quite moist, tender, and bursting in flavor with every bite, hence the decision to skip the hassle over gravy.  Carcass is now in the freezer, I’ll take it out once I’m inthe mood for turkey soup.

Turkey breast would’ve fed a small family’s feast w/o an issue, and way less effort than a full bird :fthrower:

    3. BronxWench

      BronxWench

      But I like the whole bird… :D

Actually, for a family dinner, a turkey breast is fine. It’s just not quite Thanksgiving for me.

    4. Desiderius Price

      Desiderius Price

A whole bird would be nice, gotta admit, but then I’m one mouth, and that’d be a month of leftover turkey...gets old after awhile.  So, considering all angles, made the right choice IMO.  (Of course, having family living closer to go and join, that’d be even better, TBH.)

  9. Death penalty for spammers, anybody got an issue with this?

It’s not just the forums; I’ve been getting a lot of spam “reviews” in the archives, too.

But yeah, the wicker man solution sounds valid. :)

    3. Desiderius Price

      Desiderius Price

Cross my fingers, not an issue in my reviews, yet.  But yeah, tar & feathering’s too good for them.

    4. Melrick

      Melrick

Not even spammers review my stories, so I’m fine. lol

  10. Make yourself feel better, go back and re-read the reviews you do have for your stories.

  11. Only 74k left to go to meet my November goal!

      Desiderius Price

A burst in my morning writing before real work means a tad under 73k remaining.

  12. Happy Halloween Everybody!

Happy Halloween! Looking forward to seeing all the little goblins at my door tonight.

  13. So, is eating a rabbi considered Kosher?  (Asking for...a friend :) cause ‘tis the season for questions.)

    1. WillowDarkling

      WillowDarkling

Not that I know anything about how that works, but I’d think, if the rabbi’s kept kosher for an x amount of time (how long does it take our bodies to entirely renew all its cells?) then he’d be considered kosher…

    2. Desiderius Price

      Desiderius Price

So, liberally apply the Kosher salt to be on the safe side?

    3. WillowDarkling

      WillowDarkling

Oh, absolutely! Rabbi’s aren’t known for their flavour, after all...

  14. Now that November is almost upon us, setting a (stretch) NANOWRIMO goal, get my potter fanfic to 1.1M, on drive.

  15. Last week, I wrote past a million, this morning, I posted past a million on my potter fanfic!

Oooohhhh, oooohhh, ooh… that hits WAY too close to home   ::stares miserably at piles of notes but still no thesis::

  17. If I ever wonder where my high word count is coming from on my rewrite, take this example of a 71 word paragraph, now over 800+ words including a short sensual shower scene.  Guess this is literary inflation at work?

  18. Okay, it’s official.  Can’t consider my potter fanfic “short” as it’s broken the one million word mark on the drive, now halfway to two million!  (By drive, this includes around 0.5% of overhead due to the HTML formatting.)

  19. Tis the season to eat a bulb of garlic every day to keep the vampires at bay.

Fret not, Desi—with a trim and the right conditioner, you can get that all-over once-sheddy mane lush! sultry! with a light scent of musk: seductive, like good suede !

    4. Desiderius Price

      Desiderius Price

I tend to worry more about the extra “lumps” and curves in my b-day suit!  Suppose I ought to add a bit of exercise to the diet options, that’s the true Halloween horror.

And then at 4 am you wake up with a murderous cat standing over you, for tricking them…

    3. Desiderius Price

      Desiderius Price

Technically, the cat’s on a prescription diet, only comes in one flavor, so I’m sure he appreciates the (unauthorized) occasional modification.

    4. WillowDarkling

      WillowDarkling

Poor kittie. Then you are absolutely right, he will appreciate the (unauthorised) modification :D

  21. As of this morning, my potter fanfic has risen on AO3 in word count, now #16 longest in the category.  Got some writing to do!

I do have a “cleaner” version ---  974k vs 334k, but one misses most of the really fun stuff.

It’s now tanking, Facebook has returned.

  23. Don’t mind me, chuckling where I had Dumbledore refer to anybody under a hundred twenty as a “youngster” in my potter fanfic.

    1. InvidiaRed

      InvidiaRed

      Well you/re spot on.

Wizard/ witches have a lifespan of about two hundred years. Dumbledore had at least 80 years left

      haha.

    2. Desiderius Price

      Desiderius Price

In my fanfic, I went with an earlier interpretation that put him around a hundred fifty to sixty.  But, by that point, what’s a decade or three?  :)

  24. My inner devil wants to compliment the selfie.  Your inner demon for the upcoming holiday?
