  1. Our dauschund is so proud of his wolfie provider prowess: he caught and killed a mouse!

      BronxWench

He’s braver than my corgi, who wants to make friends with the local skunks…

      WillowDarkling

From what I’ve heard about Daschunds, they have an attitude to match the length of their legs, so that mouse probably insulted him in some way :D

And I’m certain that Freyja is a minion of Mollie, so I am sure that befriending local skunks is just a part of some grand scheme towards world dominion :D

Are you sure your skunks are not particularly seductive, a la Pepe Le Pew?

He also is pack leader over the great dane. She won’t go outside, day or night, without him to protect her...

  2. Is knowing your shelf life that good a thing?

Dunno, think I’m already past my “best before” date...

    2. BronxWench

      BronxWench

I’ve decided I don’t have a “best before” date. Or if I did, the print faded and I’m ignoring it.

  3. I must be sick, I haven’t written for a week and even stopped reading...

      Desiderius Price

Hang in there!  I’m sure smut will flow from that quill in no time.  :)

  4. Roofers finally making noise overhead.  It took NINE months minus a week for the insurance to stop dragging their feet and low-balling ripped roof deck and hail damage.  The first month it poured in, later it ‘only’ dripped.

Maybe we’ll all stop having problems sleeping.

  5. Hallo all! I’m climbing out of the post holiday, post-medical funk and starting to write again. Hope the holidays of covid are now firmly in our rear view mirrors and things are looking up.

  6. Trying to edit my NaNo collection, but a fruitless and draining hospitalization sucked away my holiday card projects and last-minute gifting.  Gee, I wish we still had power where the bread machine lives...

Hope everyone’s holidays are better than the rest of this dreary year!

  7. skin of teeth: 50,337 words.  not bad as I lost several days to toothache and attempted dentist run. (and missing health aides for family at least half the month)

I will say i don’t like that the competitive widgets on the Nano pages are gone as that helps motivation.  Forums really don’t help with wordcount any more than physical write-ins.  They pull me out of the stories I wanted to tell.

Last year’s story collection became a new one which may result in nearly 20 stories.  I’d hoped to do more originals, but originals require more energy and focus than I had spoons for.  I’ll be revising after my hospital stay starting tomorrow… (uggh cubed)

  8. 48k for Nano.  medical issues really nuked me this year.  (tooth aches for weeks and usual aide issues.  get to ‘celebrate’ end of Nano with biopsy and other stressors, whee!

    hope everyone else is fine.

  9. That tired feeling after a big day writing (2600 words) and your brain is too fried to want anything but sleep.  Welcome to NaNo doldrums…

  10. 20634 nes story running well assuming about 6k for this fic— but i almost always underestimate… it could become war and piece

      24575, almost a full day ahead, yay:ph34r:

  11. 17104, not as good a day, butu I usually have a three or four day cycle during Nano.

I kind of miss the widgets, it takes too many clicks to check on a writing buddy’s progress and compete...

      1. getting bloodwork twice plus an aide supervisor and groceries.  Finished my home alone AU, two drafted now...
  12. Happy about a SW RotS fic for Nano.  Here’s what I’m proud of today: (see if you can guess the other inspiration)

Polli went to help Mirran. The stairs up must be blocked, let the attackers think they were hoping for air rescue. Carting furniture with service droids and the Force clogged the old wide spiral stairs, pulling out or destroying the lynchpins would not solve tons of equipment falling.

Enthan arrived at the desert garden with a grin. “I got the emergency stairs into the Council chamber. Like a ton of compressed fire suppressant foam will expand to cut off air in the shaft. They’ll need days to cut out and remove it if they think to find anyone there running defenses.”

Polli asked her friends, all sweaty and sore, “What else do we have that’s heavy but easy to clog lift shafts?”

Water or sand from the gardens. I need help finishing the poppers. If we can break the electronics in their armor… it won’t help against the Sith, but he must be a coward to bring an army against the injured and younglings...” Kotton was finally showing anger too. “They have not left, lethalities are necessary now. Can we handle that?”

Polli blinked, this was opposite why she worked so hard to become a Padawan. The Living Force made her weep with interconnected joy in deep meditations. She wasn’t really for the field, but the harsh balance of healing. Every hour they distracted the clones was that many fugitives who might get away. “To save a life, we kill the cancer.”

Adus and Mirran nodded in synch, while Enthan spoke darkly, “We won’t have to handle it long, a few days at most.”

  13. Usual slow start for NaNo: blaming insurance stonewalling, politics, and agencies’ incompetence! 5779 (1k behind)  they don’t seem to have the widgits anymore

I’m finally getting started myself, now that my mom is settled in short term rehab after 13 days in hospital. I’m going to have to work my ass off to catch up, but...NaNo!

yay!  I’m still at a deficit, but I should get parity tomorrow.  I’m at 13276 and not 13333. brain fried and fighting toothache.

glad you found her a regab!  is it close for visiting?

    3. BronxWench

      BronxWench

Eh. Thanks to the pandemic, there’s no visiting in person. I can do video visits, and had one scheduled for today. It did not happen, however, so tomorrow will be devoted to finding out why, and getting a clearer update of how she’s doing. I am unamused...

  14. 25k a day early, yay!

    1. GeorgeGlass

      GeorgeGlass

That’s terrific. I’m doing a mini-WriMo of just 500 words a day, and I have trouble keeping up with THAT.

good!  I’m losing ground now. pretty typical midmonth NaNo.  RL kicking me.

    3. BronxWench

      BronxWench

Congratulations, and kick back harder!

  15. I’m actually a few hundred words above my NaNo quota and waiting to see if my work’s going in an Advent promo package again this year. The theme was dragons!!

Hoping to find a kriffing fly strip and see if I can start a batch of Xmas cards with some help today. Weird bio stuff too.

  16. almost caught up for NaNo…

I reall hate Nano dumped my buddies list.  These are people I contact through their boards only and have no other way. the Nano site has lost almost all value if we cannot trust them not to dumps our friends links...

    1. BronxWench

      BronxWench

They did warn us in August that certain things wouldn’t be carried over to the redesigned site, like our buddy lists. It’s unfortunate that the information couldn’t be preserved, but there we are. Technology isn’t as reliable as we’d like.

Sadly, I’m not going to have the time to do NaNo this year, as much as I’d like. I have more than enough WIPs, my day job, and family things to keep me hopping like mad, and unless I give up sleeping altogether, NaNo will just become a source of stress rather than an exciting way to challenge myself. But I will root for everyone doing NaNo, and if you want to buddy up, I’m still MorwenNavarre on NaNo. :D

    2. Anesor

      Anesor

Sadly, their value added doesn’t apply in August for me.  I just don’t have contact info for most I was nano buddies with. Friend lists are the big thing for social sites and it’s not worth the effort to redo it if they don’t care. Can yu imagine the real social sites dropping friends lists and thinking they could keep their audience?

      I got a story featured in a halloween podcast. my 1st contract… :o

Sorry you aren’t having time to write. The new systen does facilitate other projects, combining the camps better. You can also set different goals too/  I really need to set a month aside to work on revising my originals.  I found my short/flash stories lean strongly to horror and longer happier. Maybe you should try flash as that gives faster results and easier to fit in busy schedule.  I usually fit one in in twodays.

I’m yet another Dean of WIPs.  My fanfic is all Star Wars, I’m doing the final chapter of a 4 chapter, and have a handful in medium length plus my usual big story blocking nearing the end.  I’m in a short writing class, but the required prompts aren’t reall grabbing me. I really wish this teacher would STOP starting classes during NaNo.

this is my free time after midnight so i read and game. I hope to collect all my ideas if i can’t sleep. too. sleep well!

  17. NaNo starts in about 2 hours! Eek!

Got a pro credit this week. yay!

  18. Struggling with a chapter since March, RL and block, not unreated.  I finally *gasp* wrote out most of an outline, that’s how stuck I was.

    And nasty paperwork too.

    1. CloverReef

      CloverReef

Aw! Well hurrah for the outline being almost complete tho! What usually inspires you?

    2. BronxWench

      BronxWench

I know that feeling. Between work, family, and the rest of it, I’ve been struggling to write as well. We’ll prevail, though! :D

  19. My mind just boggled when the tags for the first chapter of a mashup story elsewhere was seven hundred words longer than the chapter.

LSS, I decided not to read it as there were dozens of chars and worlds I don’t know nuttin about. The big mashups I’ve tried don’t give enough background and the more famous ones are ooc enough I begin to feel they were included more like clickbait.  I already have five stories pending to read for a while, no more. :jaw:

    1. JayDee

      JayDee

I’ve seen some stories like that on here, like every damn tag selected and it’s a drabble about Bobby-Jo getting some cheesecake with “LOL! MORE TO COME!” Like, what’s she gonna do? fuck the cheese cake?

    2. BronxWench

      BronxWench

Lemme guess… AO3? They let you tag as freely as you want, with the end result that the tags become meaningless.

    3. Anesor

      Anesor

It was AO3, but stories that are long with large casts in all fairness need more than a handful. I know now I would tag my Choices1 very differently.  My current big story has nearly ten viewpoint characters, and they go through all kinds of physical and moral crap.

You know me, I don’t wallow on the physical pain but the moral and strategic when bad stuff happens. How does one deal with the painful crossroads or morality and battlefield tactics, and the emotional aftermaths? What happens when your lover really cannot forgive something done to save lives and shorten a battle? (in this case abandonment and lots of angst)

  20. Frustration (noun) When your first chapter in months after block really hit, has to be totally rewritten because you switched from 3rd person to 1st.

  21. Day 9 or 10 of my head cold. Awaiting GP callback. Uggh.

    1. BronxWench

      BronxWench

Ugh indeed. I’m doing my level best to avoid getting sick this winter.

    2. CloverReef

      CloverReef

Pooor you, that sucks! Drink a shitton of mint tea! My mother used to steam my head with mint oil when I got head colds. and the ol’ Vick’s slathered around your neck and wrapped in a big scratchy sock trick.

  22. Happy NewYear! :wiz::balloon::chook::cheers::party:

Hope yours goes better than the poor schlubs who made the float in Pasedena that broke down and prevented the end of the parade… :bash::coffee:

  23. Holiday cold whapping me about the head… earlier than some years.  Can I rent new sinuses?

Ouch, and fell better! Chicken soup, maybe?

  24. Nothing starts your day off much better than a warm and fuzzy review of a story that has been out for a while and that the reader gets the core concept...

    1. Desiderius Price

      Desiderius Price

And pay the favor forward with some nice Holiday stories and review them :)

    2. Anesor

      Anesor

I already review almost every story I read. The only ones I don’t, are the abusive and/or creepy OOC ones. My profiles on sites and many chapter notes I include pay it forward requests for people to review all the stories they like. A fair percent of my days I spend more time doing reviews than writing my own. It ’s a good/bad habit.

    3. Desiderius Price

      Desiderius Price

I’m less of a reader, more of a writer, so that’s why I don’t review often, simply because I’m not reading that often.

  25. The anthology I’m in came out a couple weeks before I got notice. So I’m trying to come up with a clever way to do a post about it… and design my Xmas cards. Is ‘Kiln People’ a thing yet?

    1. CloverReef

      CloverReef

kiln people? Like… People baked in a kiln? And grats on your anthology!

    2. Anesor

      Anesor

Kiln People was an award winning SF book about 15 years ago. The idea is that everyone can make insta-clones of themselves of various qualities. High quality can write a paper for work, medium can clean your closets, and low quality can mow your yard, all graded like porcelin or something. Of course, shenanigans ensue.
