  1. ::takes daft one’s car to be inspected::

Daft one (calls on cell phone): How’s the car?

BW: Almost done, but babe, they need to replace the muffler. It’s all banged up and loose, like you backed into something, or someone backed into you…

Daft one: Oh, yeah. I backed into something.

    BW: :bash:

This is why I love our mechanic, who takes the daft one in stride.

I did most of the cooking last night. The lasagne is prepared and only needs baking (2 pans of it), and the filling for the steak, mushroom, and onion pie is done. All I need to do is prepare the pie crusts, fill, and bake. I have Italian bread, salad, and lots of nibbly things, as well as a case of wine, hard cider, Guinness, beer, and Campari. The place is mostly tidy, and I’m ready! :D

I’d probably not be writing if it weren’t for the computer.  The ability to backspace, change, revise.  I’ve done some hand stuff since then, usually when I’m too far away from the computer; it’s a bit better in quality, but I wouldn’t be able keep up with it.

And here, I started writing with pen and paper...  Then to a typewriter...  Then DOS...  Now MS Word...  i really have a problem...  lol.  On a serious note, that's always good to hear, BW

  5. Apparently, the Trumpian effect has struck. My son’s bus has managed to pick him up on time these week once. ONCE. I have set a record for the number of complaints filed in a single day, and I’m now going to drive the poor kid to school, because the driver is out and there isn’t anyone who can drive the bus.

The ill-prepared nature of this bus company is breathtaking. Equipment breaks down? No problem. Wait for another bus to finish its route, and send that out. “These kids” aren’t really learning anything, so they can miss the morning at school. No driver? Same deal, wait for someone else to finish a route, and that’s good enough.

    1. pippychick

      pippychick

*sighs* They’ve been useless for a while now. I don’t know what else to suggest except to keep complaining. Is it the school’s responsibility? Surely they must be thinking of getting some other bus company to fulfil the role by now…

I can’t get my head around how they can think it’s in any way acceptable to leave kids waiting around in the winter. It’s atrocious. :(

  6. Because I think we need wondrous things in our lives, I decided to donate to help purchase JRR Tolkien’s home to help create a Tolkien Centre:

I don’t know if anything will come of it, but I feel like I should do some little thing for all the joy he’s given me for all these years.

  7. For everyone celebrating today, a very Happy Thanksgiving.

I am thankful for my family, both real life and my extended online family. I’m thankful for a warm home, and food on the table. I’m thankful for so many things today, and grateful, too.

I never saw the deer, just heard the “thunk”.  Fortunately I’ve got a dash cam, so I was able to review the footage, and for several frames, the deer was present.  (The pickup coming the other way never slowed down either, barely missed it)  Now with minor hoof marks on the back of my car… (no, I’m not driving too close to the north pole either).

  11. I do not like winter storms, at all. I most certainly didn’t ask for 8 to 12 inches of snow, with strong winds and gusts up to forty miles an hour.

For our metric users, which is most of the world, this is 20 to 30 cm of snow, and wind gusts of 64 kph.

Not going to start a fad?  Wearing the cocktail dress and snow boots?  Might be the next greatest thing to start around…  Then all the Hollywood elite will start wearing them to the red carpets and you’ll have started a whole new…  No?  Not likely?  Okay.

Yeah.  I’ve had some minor issues on mine, but overall, I don’t mind it.  Granted, I’ve come to the conclusion I know more about my laptop than the…  techs that actually work at the repair shops around here…  So, either I know it or I ask someone who does…  lol.

Every OS has its virtues, some things can be easier in one or the other.  Privacy/security being different between the two.  Once I know how I’ll pay for it, I’m thinking about creating another desktop, so I’d have separate dedicated windows and a linux machines.

  16. M Denis Villeneuve had best be working on Dune Part Two, or I shall hunt him down, remove his liver with my bare hands, and offer it to the Morrigan.

And yes, Part One was an enormous improvement over David Lynch’s effort, although I might had chosen differently for the role of Lady Jessica. But by and large, c’est incroyable!

      Quote

So you’re giving it your mark of approval?

I am, actually! I read the books initially a very long time ago, and they stayed with me. I’ve reread them periodically, and I was SO excited when David Lynch was making the movie back in the early 80s. My brother and I were at the theater to see it the first week, I think, wide-eyed and breathless, but while the special effects were (for the time) amazing, and the film was gorgeous to look at, there was no passion. None. The best part of the movie was Jurgen Prochnow as Duke Leto Atreides, and perhaps Sir Patrick Stewart as Gurney Halleck. But the entirety of the first book is too vast to be covered in one movie, even if you were to show it as a three hour film. Denis Villeneuve left us on a cliffhanger, but he chose a perfect breaking point and I have high hopes that Part Two will be as wonderfully done.

  18. So.

My almost 81 year old mother is wobbly and not feeling top form because she has a sinus infection, but doesn’t want to take the nice antibiotics which will clear up said infection.

My YoungerSpawn is acting out at school and being generally a difficult young male creature, complicated by autism. We may, for the first time, require behavioral therapy.

My corgi was back in hospital with cluster seizures, and now has a second medication which makes her sleepy. We’re hoping she’ll adjust to the new med and come back to her sunny self, but the current flattening of her lively nature is heartbreaking.

I need it to be April 15, so I can open the lake house and go hide there for a solid week. Alone. With wine and coffee.

You are more of an expert than I will ever be. Only you can tell how serious it is. That’s not in doubt.

But, having said that, with all the other stresses this week, it’s hardly surprising you feel down.

And, also, those things will be adding to his stress, making it difficult to keep an even keel.

If he does need some therapy, is that such a bad thing? It is there to help, and it might just be the thing that helps him over this little bump in the road. I’ve actually heard some good things about DBT, and he might find some tools in that to help him in future.

    3. BronxWench

      BronxWench

Oh, I’m sure it will be fine, and he’ll do well with the therapy. I’m just feeling the stress of too much going on at once, and very little assistance from the rest of the alleged adults around here, all of whom need me for various things.

Might I suggest that next year, you go someplace more peaceful?  Say, downtown Detroit?  …. seriously, someplace calmer where there aren’t fireworks?  I know, you shouldn’t have to, but just to protect the family?

    3. BronxWench

      BronxWench

I don’t think it was the fireworks, really. I suspect it’s partly the hot weather, and partly an annual flare-up. When she was first diagnosed, it was right before the July 4 holiday, and we didn’t realize the phenobarbital we were administering orally wouldn’t build to a therapeutic level quickly enough. She started having clusters, and wound up nearly dying on us. Her last bad run of seizures, bad enough to put her in the hospital, was early September last year.

What I want is someone to tell me cannabis oil works for canine epilepsy, too, and I’ll be at that damned dispensary so fast, I’ll break the sound barrier.

Sorry it flared like this. We just can’t comfort them enough and they try to to return it too. I worry about ours getting something chronic like this.

It is appalling to think that someone would possess both the moral degeneracy and utter disregard for the work of others that would make it even remotely palatable to steal other authors' ideas and words, and pass them off as your own.
