  1. The four head mods had left roughly a month ago. Right now, the entire staff is busy with re-organizing the site, bringing the FAQs back up, fixing bugs, and re-organizing the remaining staff. It's a huge number of tasks that involve the entire site's staff at this point - forum staff included. The only one who can involve the site in this organization would be the owner, and she's got her hands full right now. However, some of us may be able to volunteer for the organization as individuals. Once I get some free time, I'll check it out. If Jaxxy has the time and interest, she'll be able to check it out as well. I think the main long-running issue is that AFF is trying to duck under the government's radar. OTW may be able to protect fanfiction, but would they be able to protect adult content? When it comes to AFF, a lot of us are more worried about being shut down due to adult content rather than due to copyright issues. The US government may be able to approach the copyright issue rationally, but the moment anything adult-rated comes into play, they throw hissy fits and yell "Think of the children!" - which we do with the consent forms.
  2. Flushed Away and Over the Hedge both belong in Movies. Animated movies belong in Movies. If there's a cartoon series of the same name with existing fics, it can warrant its own category within Cartoons.
  3. Hope you had a happy birthday in the midst of mundane tasks. Sorry that it's belated.
  4. Some of the scouts are dressed as Sailor Scouts. They blend in perfectly. Ignore the beer belly and the beard, they blend in PERFECTLY, YA HEAR! That's right, ignore the clumsy ninjas.
  5. It is mandatory to give warnings for all content. You can put a note in the summary such as "Warnings inside", then list all the warnings in an author's note before beginning the story. If you fail to provide a warning for certain content, you can be reported for it and the staff would have to acknowledge it. Better safe than sorry. I'm serious - you could put one brief M/M kiss in a 20-chapter fic that's otherwise M/F, and if you fail to put a warning in at least at the beginning of that chapter, a homophobic person could report it and the report would be fully valid. The staff could personally find the reporter to be an asshole who's throwing a hissy-fit over nothing, but they'd have no choice but to issue a warning and put it on your record because the reporter would legally be right. Trust me, it's best to cover yourself as thoroughly as possible because you never know.
  6. The forum hasn't been fully formed yet. The scouts are a special group that work for the AFF staff and are assigned special tasks on the site (such as actively searching out minors). They're an undercover sub-staff of sorts. I don't know how the selection process works. I do know that it's a "don't call us -we'll call you" process. The forum will remained locked once it's fully formed. Only scouts with special assigned passwords will be allowed to access the forum to hand in reports. Non-scouts who wish to report minors, trolls, and plagiarists can still e-mail the staff or report it in the TOS Violations forum.
  7. I sit back and laugh. It's stupid, but why on earth should you let it bother you? Leave it up so that others can point and laugh. The example you've just stated is a definite troll and lives to feed off your ire. Some of these reviewers aren't trolls - they're just not careful when checking their own reviews before posting. That gives you the right to dismiss them because if they can't bother to proofread a review, they don't have the right to criticize you for not thoroughly proofreading a chapter. If a review is going to criticize something like grammar or spelling, the reviewer can't afford to make the same mistakes or do even worse. Spelling and grammar is universal; it's not limited to writers. Some people find it irksome if a non-writer criticizes something like character or repetition in writing style. They ask, "What the hell do you know? You don't write stories." I think that's a different situation. Even "non-writers" are entitled to their opinions and one shouldn't dismiss their suggestions immediately as long as the reviewer is being respectful.
  8. The process for adding codes hasn't changed at all. The entire FAQ from before has been removed due to issues, and is in the process of being re-written. If you want to add new codes to an existing story, you need to do it manually. Click on "Edit Story", select a story and choose "Edit Details", and type the new codes into the "Summary" field. I agree that it'd help a lot if the FAQ was still available. We'll try to repost it as soon as possible.
  9. Today is September 19, and the following people get a balloon from me: Madame Manga is 44 years old. Iggy Lovechild is 26 years old. Jyet and sakura101 are 21 years old. stasa is 20 years old. Every age is wonderful in it's own way. I'd like to wish a very happy birthday to each of you.
  10. In India, we call that western biryani. In Spain, they call it weak paella (kidding!). Western biryani is basically biryani where you substitute traditional ingredients for western ingredients. Regular biryani is usually one meat (I like lamb), a multitude of vegetables including potatoes, peas, and onions, and whole medley of spices, including garlic, saffron, turmeric, and just a pinch of garam masala. If you use multiple meats, you've graduated to paella. I think this all goes to show that maybe our tastes aren't as weird as we think. No matter what, there will be at least one other person on the face of this planet who likes the same food you do, despite hundreds of people questioning your taste buds. Like mango daal, western biryani, and chili on spaghetti, which I've tried recently and love.
  11. I checked HP against Originals. Using the same URL format, I found out that there was no existing second page in the Latest section in the latter archive. I'd say that it has something to do with a time frame, but the other archives have stories that haven't been updated in more than three months in the Latest section, so that can't be it. Speaking of which, what is the time frame for a story to qualify for a Latest entry? I'd just like to know.
  12. George Bush and Britney Spears suck. What's so odd about that?
  13. I treat it the same way I treat my sister because she's now a temperamental teen and I'm not the only one who swears she's part cat. Chucks my sister
  14. Guilty, but only because there's a party coming up soon. G/NG: cooks with alcohol.
  15. I love it. I have never liked functioning on less than 3 hours of sleep in a 24-hour period.
  16. Not too deep in the ear please, lest I bleed. Pokes with dildo.
  17. Jaxxy's post There's still been trouble accessing/reading the e-mails in the tech account. Apparently, the issue isn't the password, but something else (not sure what) and work has already begun. All the same, any requests you were planning to send to that address can be posted in the forums. If you want to report abuse on the site or contact the staff, you can e-mail admin@adult-fanfiction.org.
  18. NinjaGajin: I'm afraid I don't see how Forum Games relates to the topic at hand in the remotest sense. Care to enlighten me? (Yes, I've seen Painful Retribution's other posts. I don't care as long as I understand what's being said.) Painful Retribution: I don't see why you need to be rude. Jaxxy already posted a request asking everyone here to let us know if you have received that specific message, so that's one thing you've accomplished in an attempt to "stop the drama". I am aware of how an "automated reply" system works. I've used it myself. The head tech happens to be a professional, so I think she knows how it works too. She knows how to disable such a message. What she needs to do right now is break the password and recover the account. If you have any tips on how to hack into an account or recover a missing account, I'm sure manta2g would appreciate it. From what I've read in your post, I thought you had assumed it was an error message. If that is not the case, I apologize.
  19. If no scroll bar shows up on the side, then the chapter is too short. I'm not talking about prologues or epilogues, but full chapters. I'm not sure what would constitute "long". I'm the last person you should ask on what's considered "too long". I think a good length for a chapter is around 3-10 full scrolls on the bar. If the scroll block is small and you have to scroll down around 20 times, maybe the chapter's too long. I don't think I've ever gone by number of pages. I always use the web layout when typing a chapter. When I check it, it looks the same as it would on the site. I use the page layout for reports which I'd have to print out. What constitutes a proper chapter? I think it honestly depends on the content of the chapter. If all the content in the chapter is relevant to one situation (be it one character's POV, one specific event, one reaction, etc.), then it's a proper chapter. It also helps if the beginning and end are "tidy", as in it doesn't come off as awkward and ill-fitting. A good chapter number cut-off depends on the individual reader. I'd say 20-30 chapters is a good rule-of-thumb for maximum lengths. If you can effectively break something beyond 40 chapters into two parts, I'd recommend it. I'm in the middle of reading this one fic that's over 80 chapters long and is still in-progress. It's a great fic, but it's way too long for my tastes. I have an amazing attention span when it comes to reading (I'm an English major - I need it), but there are limits. I can't even say anything, because as far as I can see there's no way to effectively break it down into a series because there's no long lulls between events, no POV-specific chapters, no major changes in theme. In the end, you need to go with whatever suits you best. All I ask is that you don't post re-structured chapters so often that your story gets bumped to the top constantly for several days straight. That's just rude and annoying, and it's happened on this site before.
  20. I know you're aware of the drama going on at the site with the former head mods leaving. You were present here the whole time. That address has been sending out that message for a while now. It's not a vacation message or an error. There was some kind of password issue (as far as I know), so the current tech can't access the account. Once she does, she'll fix that issue. Meanwhile, the category will be set up. If anyone else would like to request a new category during this time, they may do so in Fiction Site Suggestions. When the issues with the e-mail accounts and the Yahoo! groups have been fixed, you shall be notified.
