Using an image found online as the basis for the description helps – in some cases the image can be included with the story.

You know what? I don't care. Consider me a product of the LOGO cable channel; I've seen big, muscle-y brutes together with big, muscle-y brutes and frail, skinny men with frail, skinny men and everything in-between. I'm fine with all of it.
I write yaoi for Naruto. Consequently, the characters are portrayed in my fiction as lean but toned and/or muscled. In one of my fics Shikamaru Nara is portrayed as a former swimmer and gymnast, if that gives you an idea. The bottom line is, as long as they're loving each other, they can look however they want.

You're not going to get lots of reviews on this web site.
I know what you're thinking--with the 130,000+ who troll here, there should be many, and you are right. But therein, ma'am, lies the proverbial rub.
There is a lot of fanfiction on this site, provided free by the writers. People log on, sift through the melee, read a few fics, one or two they might really get a kick out of, and then promptly move on to Facebook, or another site. No reviews, and why not? Because tomorrow night when they repeat the process there will be *gasp* even more fics to sift through.
Writers are taken for granted here, regardless of how good a writer they are. And to be fair, the really good writers are at a dearth. Their stuff is hiding amongst the stuff written by the minors who have lied about their age in their profile and are writing crap to get attention.
Writers seem to consider a review the holy grail here. I am a writer and I do not concur with this. I get precious few reviews for what I write and I consider my writing to be both well-written and entertaining. But I don't write what I think someone will review. I write what I would want to read if I were here trolling at 11PM (like I was when I first found this site). And no, the two are most certainly not the same.
As writers posting our work on AFF, I think it's important that we do two things: one that we don't take the readers too seriously. You know the lion's share of them are minors with too much time on their hands. Your concept of a good fic and theirs are probably light years away from each other. Two, we don't take ourselves too seriously. This is a web site touting adult fan fiction, for crying out loud. If you are looking for genuine honest feedback on your writing skills, you're in the wrong place. If you're here to win a popularity contest, then you need to figure out what minors with too much time on their hands are willing to review and write lots and lots of it.
I have had four different people do a lot of fan art for my fan fiction. To me, that is the holy grail. I think fan art created by someone who read my work and was inspired by it is the kindest compliment--and the best review--that I could receive.

So, not only did this person steal and post here, they've posted at at least one other site we know of. Needless to say, this one is banned for life.

This is just the way I found to fix the way my chapters are appearing. I just thought I'd share it because it may be easy for some...maybe not so much for others if you're not in a happy place with Microsoft Word. This will help with removing italic/bold/underline tags if you have them in your word file:
Since my stories are older, all of my stories are just a MASSIVE wall of text that kill my eyes to even look at them as they appear on the site. I too have those tags to make them italic, bold or underlined but at this time, I don't feel like going through and doing a major glance to correct any of the small errors I might have. It took me about five minutes to fix this in a 4500 word chapter. All I did (in word) is do a control+f to find the < i > tag (in my case), highlight the line or paragraph and hit control+i which, of course, will make it italic. Don’t worry about removing the tag. When I made the parts that needed to be italic, including the tags, I just hit control+H. This brings up the find and replace box. Put the tag in the FIND WHAT box, Example < i >. In the REPLACE WITH box, just leave it blank. It will replace the tag with NOTHING, removing it from the file.
When you're done with that, copy/paste into the text box on aff and edit chapter. PERSONALLY, I WOULD NOT SAVE THE CORRECTED FILE UNTIL YOU MAKE SURE IT POSTED CORRECTLY BY VIEWING YOUR CHAPTER ON THE SITE AS IF YOU WERE A READER. Just have an extra tab open in firefox or IE so you can just refresh the chapter to see the change. If all is good, then you can save it to your computer.
For those of you who just wanna remove the tags and don't care about keeping your formatting, just use the control+h and remove the tags.
DG, Apollo, Manta…I gotta say, I love the new abilities we have with everything! It will take me some time to fix all the stories but I will enjoy uploading any new stories/chapters and sharing my faves.
    Amazing job all!!

Hmm... generalisation is always an issue. Women can't write sex from a male perspective. Men can't write it from a female, etc. It's like been said before: it's about research and how well someone can write. Bad writers from both genders write shitty sex scenes and the badness is usually not limited to the opposite sex.
I'm a woman, and I can't stand Anne Rice's flowery style. I like her plots and characters, but the overly descriptive writing is so tedious and makes it impossible for me to get through and enjoy it. So, I can see why a guy would make that statement about Anne Rice's male perspective.
However, it's a generalisation not only about women but also about men. Because this person can't imagine himself thinking in flowery descriptions, he is assuming no other guy on the planet can. I'll admit to finding that hard myself, too. I'm just as much a product of a gender-biased society as he is. But I've been around long enough to know that women and men come around in various flavours and we don't all experience things the same or in the way society thinks it's appropriate for us to feel. Just because I get a high from being touched somewhere, doesn't mean all women do. If only sex was that simple. XD
I find that I struggle with sex scenes when I write no matter whose perspective I choose. I don't want it to become like a manual to the reader. I want it to be engaging and exciting, but there are only have so many words and so many ways to write something that I sometimes want to pull my hair out whilst considering what other word to use this time besides, for instance, throbbing because I already used the word twice in previous paragraphs. I don't want to become repetitive in my sex scenes, but I find I do slip into a certain routine, too. And upon noticing this, I try to take a different approach with new stories.
However, I can't pull off the flowery kind because that makes me laugh and completely spoils the mood. I read a story by an author on this site once that had vague descriptions for parts of the human body and was still a really good sex scene, but for me that author was the exception to the rule.
And I usually start to snicker when I see things like "He stroked her holier than thou, untouched, sacred place". Okay, fine, not snicker but ROFL. However, I am sure there are others out there who enjoy reading that, which is exactly why generalising about these things is an issue no matter which way (from a male or female, writer or reader's perspective) you look at it.
Or at least, that's how I see it.

Being very sexy and having a seductive personality and having alluring salacious personality... has nothing to do with old age at all... For surely there is ... a good number of older women and man, out there with the skills, abilities, and artistic charms to seduce just about anyone. It all in your stance and mannerisms and the image of confidence you project to the world. Just think of all our older actors, who still project a confident sexy personality and outstanding charisma.
Age has not nothing to do with it, its all in your outstanding smooth active romantic groovy style!
    Groovy, Calanthee

    Well said Cal!
As to imagery, the stories I've found which featured older couples, when they were written well, the imagery was all about their interactions with each other.
